The word ‘satsang’ is a compound word of ‘sat’ and ‘sang’ meaning ‘Truth’ and ‘Commune’, and in the truest masonic spirit, when conjoined ‘Good and Virtuous Company.’
Satsang can mean being in the company of a guru, or in company with an assembly of persons who listen to, talk about, and assimilate the truth. Traditionally, it involves listening to or reading scriptures, reflecting on, discussing and assimilating their meaning, meditating on the source of these words, and bringing their meaning into one’s daily life.
Bhaja govindam Verse 9 says:
Sat-sangatve nissangatvam nissangatve nirmohatvam Nirmohatve nishchala-tattvam nishchala-tattve jivanmuktih
Meaning, good and virtuous company (Satsang) gives rise to non-attachment. From non-attachment comes freedom from delusion. With freedom from delusion, one feels the changeless reality. Experiencing that changeless reality, one attains liberation in this life.
This has been the premise on which the petitioners of this Lodge have come together. In terms of its prospective members, though there is no specific restriction, we wanted to enable the young professionals in the fields of IT, ITES, Finance and Civil services. This section of the society will find a Sunday Lodge easier to attend rather than a lodge on a week day evening.
This Lodge has been formed with 27 petitioners who represent 20 different Lodges from Southern Region, including Chennai, Madurai, Tirunelveli and Pearlcity, my mother Lodge. I am extremely thankful to all of the petitioners who have thought fit to congregate into this Satsang and for reposing confidence in me in electing me as the founding Worshipful Master of Lodge Satsang. I will do the best to make your judgement true, in laying a proper foundation to this lodge.
I would like to place on record deep sense of appreciation the efforts of a few brethren without which this might not have seen the light. W.Bro.S. Srikanth, the organizing secretary of this lodge, W.Bro.D.R. Chandramouli and W.Bro.Dr.Gurumurthy Natarajan have all put in their tremendous efforts in making this happen. There is one brother who has been the centre pin of Lodge Satsang in its ideation, conceptualization and execution. This brother has been doing this for many years now and there are few contributors like him in our fraternity. I am referring to W.Bro.V.R. Raguraman, who has toiled and contributed hugely to this cause of Satsang. Thanks my dear brother as always and look forward to much more in future.
To save the best of the appreciations to the last, the sheer presence of this brother makes a huge difference. This brother instantly accepted my invitation to become a petitioner. He has been a guide, Mentor and patron to many brethren and more particularly to Lodge Satsang. Thanks a ton, dear Doctor. I refer to M.W.Bro.Capt.Dr.Balaram Biswakumar, OSM, for being one amongst us in the Satsang and agreeing to be our guide. Thank you Sir.
My thanks to all visitors and dignitaries who have graced this occasion and I invite all to the festive board after the meeting.
I pray Almighty God for His blessings to make this Lodge Satsang No.396 a purposeful, successful and exuberant lodge.
Jai Hind!
